Innovative Team Building Singapore

Effective Team Building

August 5th, 2008

One of the major concerns of our clients when they are planning team building activities is whether the team building session will be effective.

There are a few types of team building activities available in the market, some of them are easily forgotten while others will keep you talking for weeks or months to come.

That made us wonder whether there is a team building activity that can guarantee that participants will have a “team building effect” that lasts for the entire year?

After years of researching and experimenting with our clients, we realised that the answer is “no”. Regardless of which activity you pick for your team building event - be it indoor or outdoor, there will not be one activity that can help participants feel the bonding for the entire year. This is simply because team building is not an event; it is a process.

It is also not the activity that will determine how effective or how long the effect will last, it is the people that makes the difference. So the onus is on us, the team building professionals to ensure that our participants get the right message when they attend our team building sessions; regardless of the type of activities that are picked.

At Anergy, we specialise in providing the widest range of team building programmes to our clients just to kick start that process of team building. We also share with participants on:

1. the importance of relationship building
2. the right attitude to positive working relationship with colleagues
3. practical tips that can be used to better relationships

So how do we prolong the effects of effective team building? Simply by having more mini get-togethers on top of the formal yearly or half-yearly team building session!

Some of the interesting and low cost activities that you may consider for the mini gatherings include BBQ, bowling, laser shootouts, movies, trekking, blading, cycling, soccer or other sports. Yes, eating together is a good idea too, bringing one another to interesting eating places helps build relationships as well.

New Indoor Team Building Game - Gossips (Magazine)

July 7th, 2008

Indoor team building has always been and will always be part of the core programmes that we offer, especially with global warming bringing more unpredicted rain fall at the wrong time.

Anergy is  proud to present a new indoor team building programme (magazine making game) affectionately called “Gossips”. This team building game is aimed at helping participants have lots of fun in teams and at the same time get to know a few of the colleagues much better.

The game goes like this:

Participants form teams that produce magazines. The teams brainstorm to come out with questions to ask their subject and then take turns to interview their subjects.

They then take photos, do write ups and produce a magazine within the stipulated time line. There will be other requirements like advertisements and content that they have to put up.

Participants will then have time to go through the stories that the team came out with and compare that with the real facts given by the interviewees.

Through this programme, participants will learn about:

1. Planning
2. Time management
3. Leveraging on strengths of team members
4. Creativity
5. Facts about colleagues (getting to know one another better)

Duration of this game is about 1/2 a day. We will bring whatever the game requires. Participants will get to keep the lovely magazines that they make during the team building programme.

New Batch of Laser Tag Guns

June 20th, 2008

Anergy Laser Shootout is proud to announce the arrival of yet another new batch of laser tag guns.

This new batch of laser tag guns will be reserved for our clients who are doing team building programmes with us to ensure that, as far as possible, clients who opt for teambuilding options will get newer and less worn out guns.

Team building has been and will continue to be the main focus of our business. Having run both indoor and outdoor team building programmes since 2003, we see great potential in laser shootout teambuilding programmes as it is one of the rare outdoor programmes around that is able to excite a wide range of participants (and not just boys or the male gender only, contrary to popular belief).

Laser Shootout will continue to be an effective tool that we use to impart values like leadership and delegation, planning, communication and motivation.

The advanced laser tag equipment that we use are highly accurate and durable. The lessons learnt from this exhilarating laser tag teambuilding event will be impressed in the minds of the participants for a long time.

If you wish to find our more about our fun laser shootout sessions or our laser tag teambuilding, please feel free to contact us.

Laser Tag Teambuilding in Singapore

March 8th, 2008

Laser Shootout! is our new laser tag team building event for the Singapore market. Leveraging on advanced outdoor laser tag technology, we are able to bring you this adrenaline pumping teambuilding challenge for people of all ages (if you like physical activities).

In Singapore, paintball has been around for a number of years. However, they are located at the northern and western part of Singapore and the playing fields only allow 5 member teams to participate. With the new laser tag equipment that we have, we are now able to offer you the flexibility of hosting this laser tag event in a location that is near your meeting place or office. The weapons that we use emits harmless infra red beams and they are tested by the Health and Sciences Authority of Singapore.

How Does Laser Tag work?

Outdor Laser tag technology is similar to the laser quest that some of us may be familiar with. They used to operate at Marina Square many years ago. You wear a vest and carry a plastic gun and you play this game in a dark maze. Laser Quest actually uses indoor laser tag systems. The range of the guns are shorter and they work best under controlled, dark conditions.

Outdoor laser tag systems are widely used to millitaries worldwide to do combat simulation exercises with their soldiers. Similar to this technology, the systems that we use enables the guns to fire up to 300 plus meters. Sensors attached to each gun is able to register direct hits and even near misses! There is also the night mode, which enables the guns to be played either indoors or during the night time.

The good news is that you can make a booking for this game just for fun or for teambuildings sessions. As long as you have a minimum of 10 people, we will be able to host a party for you. If you do not have 10 friends of colleagues with you, you can consider joining our public shootouts where you can play the game with other people who are looking for other people to play with. Just sign up for your email updates and we will inform you of our next laser tag party.

Our laser tag party is also ideal for kids birthday celebrations. As our game does not involve any projectiles, it is perfectly safe for children to play this during their birthday party celebrations. All they need to do is to hold the gun, run around and shoot one another. See kids birthday party.

For those of us who have - at some point in time - entertained thoughts of pulling out a pistol and shooting our friends, colleagues or even bosses, this will be the perfect game for us!

Treasure Hunts vs änergy Synergy Race

November 6th, 2007

Treasure hunts have been around since the beginning of time. Alright, I’m exaggerating here but we’ve all participated in treasure hunts since a long, long time ago and some people have the idea that änergy synergy race is another treasure hunt. To set the record straight, änergy synergy race is NOT a treasure hunt, it’s more like the “amazing race” that we’ve seen on tv, with teambuilding elements included.

So are treasure hunts good team building games? Yes and no.

In this post, we will attempt to show you why änergy Synergy Race is one of our flagship team building programme that we have run for more than 100 times (for corporate clients only and we’re still counting) since early 2003, and why it is different from other treasure hunts that we are so familiar with.

Treasure hunts are good team bonding games (there is no typo error here) they ARE good team bonding games, if and provided if, your main objectives are to get your staff out to have some form of outdoor activity, have fun, spend some time together and to get to know one another. Treasure hunts basically get teams of people to solve clues to go to a list of places to find out information.

They will then return to the end point where the organiser will go through the list of answers that they have found (to verify that they did go to those places) and based on the number of correct answers that they have, a winning team will be selected.

Now allow us to help identify elements that lead to a well run treasure hunt. A well organised treasure hunt should have a mixture of easy to find and tougher checkpoints. To minimise cheating, the stations should also have encrypted answers so that different teams that reach the check point will have to find out different answers. There should also be a helpline to guide participants should they get lost or have any doubts.

At this point, if you are one of those participants that are highly competitive, you will realise that this system is not foolproof; you can actually split up, send some of your team mates to one location, while the rest of you go to other locations. In this way, your team will likely finish the treasure hunt much faster than the other teams.

However, from a team building aspect, the participants will probably end up interacting with that 1 or 2 other team mates that they eventually travel together to the 1 or 2 stations that they were assigned to.

The only way to eliminate this form of “cheating”, or creative problem solving, is to station a facilitator at each station to take a head count or to initial on their score sheet. This is exactly what we do for our synergy race. There is also another important difference between synergy race and treasure hunts - participants do not find out information at the checkpoints, they have to complete teambuilding tasks as well, and depending on how well they complete the tasks, they will be awarded points, which will accumulate to determine the winning team.

Treasure hunts also has its limitations as team building games as we cannot share about team values to participants other than “sharing of workload” and “working together”. Synergy race on the other hand, can be easily customised as teams complete different stations tasks at each station. We can incorporate learning values like “communication”, “coordination”, “leadership”, “support” and even values that are traditionally difficult to bring across, like “integrity”, “trust” and “sharing of resources”. Then again we must emphasise that änergy synergy race is a very useful program to create awareness of the importance of such values (it is not a 2-day course in those topics).

Having run änergy synergy race in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Hong Kong since 2003, we have also included systems to ensure that at every station it will be different individuals playing an active role to ensure maximum participation.

We will also make observations while the teams are participating at the stations to pick out positive behaviours and reinforce them during debrief.

If you will like to know more about our synergy race, please feel free to contact us.

Salad Making Team Building

November 20th, 2006

änergy is proud to present our new team game: änergy salad dressing.

This team game is designed to excite, engage and exceed the expectations of participants. Many people have the misconception that indoor team building games are boring. Not when you do it with änergy. In this new game, we have turned the simple salad making process into an exciting team building game. Another advantage is that we can do this anywhere you are having your meeting (almost, there are still some considerations for the venue).

Below is what one team came up with during our session with Cisco Systems, Inc.:

Fruit Tree Salad from Team 2

The salad tree from team 2 is a classic example of creativity, teamwork and excellent planning and delegation of duties. The team had not done this before prior to the team building session and they did up the creative salad in less than an hour!

Cisco Systems Team 2

This is team 2 from Cisco Systems, Inc. in action

A game like this is suitable for a wide range of participants as it is not physical, it is not overly complex and does not require too much thought process. As long as the team work together and put in effort to carry out their plans, the task can be completed.

Building Team Work Through Charity

October 8th, 2006

At änergy, we believe in giving (other than team work), that’s why we do offer our services to non-profit organisations at discounted prices. Also we have created 2 charity programs to help our clients be a blessing to those who are in need. We have tie ups with charity organisations to organise charity team projects with them, as well as other activities to put a smile on the faces of those who are less fortunate than ourselves.

änergy Rags 2 Riches
änergy rags to riches is a charity team challenge, where participants compete in teams to raise money from the streets for charitable purposes. Each team will have to come out with a business idea and use the capital that is provided to create a money making business to make money for charity. We will take care of all logistical requirements and police permits will also be applied for each team (it is illegal to raise money in the streets without a police permit).

Through this seemingly impossible team challenge, participants will realise that if committed individuals come together as a team, nothing is impossible. One of our clients (2 teams of about 15 people each team) actually raised a little over $3,000, all in half a day’s work. Click here to see pictures of our client, Equinix Asia Pacific, taken during their charity team building session.

änergy child’s play
Not all of our clients are comfortable with raising money from the streets. änergy child’s play is designed to help participants bring laughter to underprivileged children. Participants from each team will be given crash courses on performances like dancing and balloon sculpting, they will rehearse and practice and as we make arrangements for them to put on a show for underprivileged children at a children’s home.

Depending on how committed each team is, we can kick start this project any time from 1 month before, 1 week before or just on the actual day of the performance.

The most important lesson however, is that it is a blessing to be able to give, what better way to foster team spirit than to let the teams put their heads together for a noble cause, and give back to the society at the same time?
